Humber River Health Appoints Chief of Medicine and Chief of Paediatrics

Chief of Department of Medicine
We are pleased to announce Dr. Susan Tory has accepted the role of Chief of the Department of Medicine and Medical Director of the Medicine Program.
Dr. Tory obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and Bachelor of Obstetrics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Prior to this time, she majored in Cell Biology & Genetics to obtain a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia. More recently, Dr. Tory obtained a Masters Certificate in Health Leadership Development from York University.
Dr. Tory has been a member of the Department of Medicine at Humber River Health (Humber) since October 2015, when she joined as a General Internist-Hospitalist. Dr. Tory completed her post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at UHN and St. Michael’s Hospital and a Fellowship in General Internal Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital.
Dr. Tory has held a number of leadership and administrative roles during her time at Humber, including as Medical Director of the Command Centre since 2017, Secretary of the Medical Staff Association and Physicians IT Advisory Committee member since 2018, and as a member of the Physician Wellness Committee since 2020. Dr. Tory will continue to be the physician lead and representative of Humber’s Command Centre as the Medical Director.
Within this new role, Dr. Tory looks forward to a continued emphasis on supporting physician engagement and wellness, growing academic and research opportunities within the Department of Medicine, and continuing to serve Humber’s large and diverse patient population through the provision of reliable, safe and accessible high-quality care.
Dr. Tory has a passion for supporting the personal and professional growth of emerging and existing leaders at Humber. She looks forwarding to effecting positive change for hospital patients by providing them with high-reliability care, and department members by providing them with a safe, inclusive and satisfactory work experience.

Chief of Paediatrics
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sally Kenawy has accepted the role of Chief of the Department of Paediatrics. Dr. Kenawy obtained her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Prior to this time, she received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physiological Science from Simon Fraser University.
She has been a member of the Department of Paediatrics at Humber River Health Humber since 2015, when she joined as a hospitalist-consulting pediatrician. Dr. Kenawy has also maintained a private practice at Vaughan Pediatric Clinic since this time. Dr. Kenawy completed her post-graduate training in SUNY Downstate Medical Center, in Brooklyn New York, where she served as the Paediatric Chief Resident.
As a Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, with an Adjunct Clinical Academic Appointment from the University of Toronto, Dr. Kenawy has mentored many medical learners doing paediatric rotations at Humber as a preceptor since 2015.
Dr. Kenawy takes great pride in the work being done at Humber, and as Chief of the Department of Paediatrics, she sees many positive opportunities for departmental growth and is committed to helping the department continually evolve. With a combination of strong clinical skills, communication and interpersonal skills, Dr. Kenawy is well suited to achieve her goal of continuing to serve the unique patient population that seeks care at Humber, as well as fellow colleagues.
