Surgical Pre-screening Clinic


The Surgical Pre Screening clinic provides comprehensive preoperative assessment and education to patients and their families. The care provided is patient and family-centred with focus on high quality patient and family experience and health outcomes, respecting the needs of patients, and their families.


Patients will be evaluated by an inter-professional team with focus on screening for perioperative risks, physiological optimization for anesthesia and surgery, and on establishing a perioperative plan of care in collaboration with patients and their families. We also provide Hip and Knee classes for perioperative preparation.


The goal is it ensure that patients are physically and emotionally prepared for surgery. Patients will have an initial pre-operative telephone screening conducted by a Registered Nurse qualified in Pre Anesthesia assessment and care. Patients who are not be eligible for a telephone interview will be scheduled for a SPS in in-person visit only.


The Clinic is staffed by anesthesiologists, acute pain team, hospitalists, and internists physicians, and allied health professionals and registered nursing staff who are experts in patient care assessment.


The Pre-Screening clinic is focused on supporting patients with special needs, and language barriers in preparation for their surgical procedure.


How to access the clinic:


Referral by family or emergency room physician required.

Located on the 1st Floor from the Main Street north-south corridor, the closest entrance is the South Entrance between Portal B and C. The West Parkade is the closest parking lot.
